AZORES EDITION – EPISODE I: The Furnas

Going to Azores and not going to the Furnas is like going to Rome and not going to the Vatican.

The Furnas on São Miguel is one of the main attractions of the island. That’s where the typical roast is cooked – in pots buried on volcanic soil.

But this delicacy doesn’t come without a cost. And I’m not just talking about the price (sometimes high) that you’ll have to pay for the deal in a restaurant. Here, the smell of sulfur is a constant, sometimes too strong even for the bravest.

Some consider that the smell penetrates the baked meat, making them strong to the palate … but it didn’t bother me. 😉

But the Furnas are a magical place, also for the natural beauty that surrounds them.

Therefore, marvel at the colors of the lagoon and the Chapel of Our Lady of Victories.
