SOLIDARITY ADVENTURE — TRAVELING TO HELP

Aventura Solidária

The United Nations has decreed that this year, 2017, would be the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. To mark this celebration, I would like to talk to you about a project that I recently came across with and which, incredible as it may seem, is celebrating its 10th edition: the Solidarity Adventure.

The Solidarity Adventure is an action organized by AMI that allows the participants to join one of the missions of this NGO, to help local communities, while discovering new destinations.

For 10 days, solidarity travelers will get to know the daily reality of locations in Brazil, Guinea Bissau or Senegal, and can contribute to improving the living conditions of needy populations, but also allowing time to appreciate the place and all of its culture.

The Solidarity Adventure Program

The destinations scheduled for 2017 are Réfane, Senegal (from April 21 to 30 – CLOSED), Bolama Island in Guinea Bissau (May 4 to 14) and Milagres in Brazil (June 23 to July 2 ).

With the trip to Réfane already closed, you can still sign up for the Bolama and Miracles projects.

In Bolama Island, besides volunteering, you can visit the city and the nearest tabancas, attend folklore sessions, but also visit other places like Galinhas Island, Bissau and Saltinho.

In Milagres, located in the Sertão do Cariri, travelers participate in volunteer activities, but also in visits to some of the most emblematic places, such as the historical center, the Horto do Padre Cícero and the Paleontological Museum of Juazeiro do Norte. Witness the local culture, with moments of northeastern singing or forró pé-de-serra.

How much does it cost to participate in a Solidarity Adventure?

Participating in Solidarity Adventure is not without costs. In fact, the project was created as a way to raise funds for international missions and, in this case, to fund the project and the community supported on each trip.

The amount paid includes all expenses, such as airfares, transportation, food/full board, accommodation, personal accident insurance and travel assistance, local guides and cultural and recreational activities. And, as if that were not enough, you can still deduct taxes up to € 300.

For more information on the amount by destination or registration, check out the project site or send an email to aventura.solidaria@ami.org.pt.
