I work in Lisbon but I live in Ericeira, about 50 km from the Portuguese capital, and when the weekend plans include a night in the city, I like to stay there to sleep.
The criteria for choosing accommodation are simple: centrality, price, and cleanliness. It doesn’t need to have large dimensions or supersonic installations. After all, it’s just a place to spend the night and avoid having to drive after a night of drinks.
The Imperial Guesthouse right in the center of town
So, last time I made this adventure I found The Imperial Guesthouse, in the middle of the Restauradores Square. Do you want more centrality than that?!
The building dates from 1895. Without a lift, the climb to the upper floors is still a little painful for those who may be out of shape. But the view from up there will be well worth the effort.
The room we chose had no private bathroom. In fact, it had little more than the bed, a small table and a frame with hangers to put our clothes.
We wanted to spend only one night, so it was more than enough. But what I loved the most was the wood finishes, the details of the robe, slippers and the small samples with a touch of Lisbon. Not to mention the green apple. 🍏
A good experience
The room was super clean, the bed and cushions quite comfortable and the small window in the ceiling allowed us to glance over the city to the Castle of St. George.
The bathroom was my biggest fear. The word “shared” always scared me when it comes to this room of a house. But here again, my fears didn’t materialize, since the cleaning and tidying were notorious.
Maybe I was lucky with my experience at The Imperial Guesthouse, but if, like me, you are staying only for one night, there’s nothing like to see it with your own eyes. 😉
